Guideline details

Requests are reviewed against the standards below.

Sheds

  • Any structure over 4 ft high, 3 ft deep, or 4 ft wide is considered a shed and requires approval.
  • All other structures must be secured to prevent damage during storms.
  • Sheds must be attached to the home.
  • Sheds must have the same siding, paint, and shingles as the home.
  • Sheds must be for storage, not for animals.

Fences

  • No chain link fences are allowed.
  • Maximum height is 6 ft unless on a street corner.
  • Fences must follow city guidelines.
  • Materials: wood, wrought iron, aluminum in wrought iron style, white vinyl.
  • Styles: privacy, picket, or shadow.
  • Use exterior wood stain, not paint.

Paint & siding

  • Paint colors must be recommended for exterior use.
  • If color choice is in question, provide a large sample or refer to the board.
  • House colors should be neutral or muted; avoid bright colors.
  • Trim should coordinate with house color; front door can be bright and contrasting.
  • Garage door color may differ but should coordinate with house color.

Solar panels

  • Solar panels must be installed on the roof, not in the yard.
  • The board will follow all State Statutes in regards to solar panels.

Exterior materials

The exterior walls of all buildings, structures, and appurtenances thereof shall be of brick, stone, wood shingles, wood siding, wood paneling, plate glass, Masonite, or a combination thereof. Manufactured stone and lava rock for exterior walls must be approved by the architectural control committee. Windows, doors and louvers shall be of wood or colored metal and glass. Roofs shall be covered with asphalt shingles, wood shake shingles, slate or tile. Any building products which may come into general use for dwelling construction in this area after the date of these restrictions shall be acceptable if approved in writing by the architectural control committee. All wood and Masonite exteriors, except roofs, shall be covered with a workmanlike finish of paint, stain and/or weather preservative, unless another finish is approved in writing by the architectural control committee.
